She works hard for the money

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

Thursday was an especially busy work day. I"m glad I got out early for a bike ride in historic Bel haven and on the museum trail.

The rest of the day was meetings, meetings, meetings. I wasn't crushed when the last meeting person didn't show up, so i was able to have a walk around downtown Jackson with Buddha. There is so much history here, I turned up the original SEC building and the site of the Woolworth's sit in while just walking around.

Then, of course, the governor's mansion is downtown also

I also found some good examples of art deco architecture besides the SEC building -- the post office and a building i was unable to identify.

Lastly, I do love an old church, and this one with a beautiful gold mosiac was stunning. Another one had also had been quite grand and it wasn't until I drove around it, that i realized it was abandoned and in disrepair. The steeple cracked me up though. I felt like someone looked at the finished building and said, oh we need a steeple.

Then, of course, there was dinner to be resolved. I found Saltine, where both the hostess and my waiter were very interested in my civil rights/civil war tour and gave me some tips about places to go. I again tried fried green tomatoes, crab avocado toast, southern savory cornbread and a cheese cake with a cinnamon bun on top of it. Incidentally, I left Buddha unattended and she finished off the remaining cheese cake that i had brought home. I couldn't be too mad at her for saving me like 500 calories.
